Antonis Vasiliadis was born in Thessaloniki in 1958 but spent his childhood and adolescence in Drama. There, he completed his high school studies (1976).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until the age of 16, his goal was to enter a school at the Polytechnic University, preferably in Architecture. It was a family tradition – the legacy of his grandfather – that influenced his choices. However, due to a serious health problem in the family, he had a change of heart and decided to study Medicine. This is something he never regretted, as with maturity, healing became a \u201cfair playing field\u201d for him and a driving force for the betterment of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After completing his basic medical studies, he decided to pursue a surgical specialty. The rapid expansion of technology and its contribution to addressing various orthopaedic problems, along with the excitement of making the impossible possible, fascinated him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1986 to 1991, he trained in Orthopedic Surgery at the 2nd Orthopedic Clinic of the Naval Hospital of Athens (1986\u20131988) and at the Orthopedic Clinic of the University of Athens (1988\u20131991), at K.A.T. Hospital. In 1991, after successfully passing his examinations, he was granted a license to practice Orthopaedics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remarkable opportunity to participate in one of the first Microsurgery Training Seminars brought him into contact with this new and fascinating scientific field. Equipped with knowledge of this surgical technique, along with the ability to use micro-tools and the surgical microscope, it became possible to repair injuries that had previously led to limb amputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From February 1992 to August 1993, he worked at Horton General Hospital in Banbury and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, UK, in the Department of Hand Surgery. During this time, under the direction of Professor Andrew Carr, he had the opportunity to become familiar with complex problems in Orthopedic Surgery, particularly in hand surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After returning home, he worked as a Visiting Fellow at the Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery Clinic of K.A.T. Hospital under the direction of N. Daoutis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this period, he completed his doctoral thesis on the topic \u201cTreatment of Unstable Scaphoid Carpal Nonunion According to Herbert.\u201d The motivation stemmed from the observation that fractures of the scaphoid bone of the wrist continue to present a challenging problem for orthopedic surgeons, due to a high risk of complications, mainly pseudarthrosis and osteonecrosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1998, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree by the University of Athens with a grade of 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1999 to 2001, he worked as a Junior Consultant at the Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery Clinic of K.A.T. Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2001, in collaboration with N. Daoutis, he founded the Department of Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery at Metropolitan Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His practice operates at Metropolitan Hospital in N. Faliro-Athens, where he consults with new patients, identifies their concerns, and provides appropriate treatment solutions in each case. He also performs surgeries at the same hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is an active member of the Hellenic Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery and the Hellenic Society of Hand Surgery, as well as a member of the British Society of Hand Surgery and the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
