CONGENITAL DYSPLASIAS (VARIATIONS) OF THE EXTREMITIES

The upper limb is formed between the 4th and 8th week of the fetus. During these four weeks, the development of the upper limb follows a sequence of steps until the form of the limb is completed. Failure of even one of the steps-stages of this evolutionary process can lead to the appearance of dysplasia.

The different categories of congenital malformations of the hand include:

  • missing parts (creation failure)
  • syndactyly (failure to separate)
  • polydactyls
  • hypoplasia or hyperplasia
  • clamping rings

In any case, and depending on the picture, surgical treatment aims to restore the function of the hand and improve the cosmetic appearance.
